Prayer Series - Starting Monday, October 7, join Carolyn for anonline monthly Welcoming Prayer session at 7:15 pm every 1st Monday ofthe month. The Welcoming Prayer is a method of consenting to Spirit’spresence and action in our physical and emotional reactions to events andsituations in daily life. This may be especially grounding for us asElection Day draws near! Each session will begin with a brief intro tothe process, include a Rumi poem, prayer time, and then time for briefparticipant questions/comments. The total session will be less than 30minutes. We invite you to join us in a zoom discussion 7:00-8:30 p.m., this coming Tuesday, March 11, on the topic YOU AND GOD.

The last two months, Spiritual Voyagers has had excellent conversations on the topics “You and Prayer" and “You and the Bible." 
They lead nicely into this month’s topic (on March 11 and 25), YOU AND GOD.  Here are some springboard questions:
* Do you believe in God?  What does it mean to you to believe in God?
* How do you perceive God?  Is it different than your perception when you were younger?
* What role, if any, does God play in your life?  Is it constant or occasional or seldom?  At special occasions, at church; in nature; in relationships?
* What questions and imaginations do you have about God’s existence and nature?

  Hello, and Welcome to this fall's series of Wild and Precious Conversions, a renaming and restructuring of Spiritual Voyagers.  

You are receiving this email either because you were on our past Spiritual Voyager email list or you asked to join in with us for one or more of our five zoom conversations over the next several weeks (7:00-8:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays--September 24, October 8 and 22, November 12 and 26).  Keith Ford will send out a zoom link a day or two before each session.

"Wild and Precious Conversations" is based on a phrase from a Mary Oliver poem:  

                    Tell me, what is it you plan to do
                    with your one wild and precious life?

It's also part of the title of Mike Graves' book, Jesus' Vision for Your One Wild and Precious Life.  Our zoom conversations will have 3 blended perspectives:  themes from Mike Graves' book; preparation and reactions to Pastor Travis Norvell's sermons on these themes; and the Biblical connections which drive the concepts.

Though the sessions will be related, each zoom conversation will be free-standing:  you  can feel comfortable joining in for any one or more of them.  Also, reading the book or hearing Pastor Norvell's sermons are NOT necessary for you to participate.  

Prior to each session, we will email you a few comments and springboard questions for our upcoming zoom meeting.  For our conversation this coming Tuesday...

1.  A quote at the beginning of the Introduction to Graves' book reads, 
"There is more that is important about Jesus than his death."...the idea that Jesus did not come to die but to live might be a surprise.  In your own spiritual journey, how did the death of Jesus get treated in comparison to the life he lived? 

2.  "Follow me,"  Jesus said (and that's the heading on chapter 1 of Graves' book).
...the essence of Jesus' teaching on following him could be summarized as follows:  "Come just as you are, but don't expect to stay that way."  What does that mean?

3.  In Luke 4:18-19, Jesus reads from Isaiah--The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor"; and then Jesus boldly declares, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."   How is this "good news to the poor" and a challenge to the wealthy?

Hi everyone!

I'm Jason, a new member of Judson church.

I also love textiles and fabric art 🙂 My favorite modality is sewing free form quilt tops.

I learned that Judson had a group, so I asked Eileen for a list of folks who've been in the Judson textile group in the past.

I have a few quilting projects I'm working on and I would love to work on them in community with others. Maybe we could get a Judson textile group work session on the calendar for sometime in the next month or so.

Gathering: A WritingCircle with Kris Woll

Writing is a solitarypractice, a quiet art of showing up to yourself and to the page. Gathering withfellow writers can provide nourishment and inspiration to sustain yourpractice, a chance to reflect on your process and product with others engageddeeply in the same craft.

Gathering creates this space to reflect on your work, withthe companionship of other writers. Inspired by contemplative practices,Gathering meetings will center on what is coming alive in our writing andwriting life, our creative practice and creative souls. We will not “workshop”writing, but will listen deeply and with intention to each ourselves and toeach other. 

Each meeting will include ashort time for silent writing and brief updates and progress reports for allparticipants. Over the course of our meetings, each participant will also haveseveral opportunities to share their work and their reflections on it in adeeper way, over a longer stretch of time. These will be planned in advance, sowriters have an opportunity to consider what they would like to bring to thegroup. Group size is limited. 

Gathering is open to writersacross genres who:

·  Are actively engaged in a writingproject with a desire to move the project forward in the coming year; 

·  Desire to fuse the creative process withcontemplative and mindful practices;

·  Can commit to a series of five in-personmeetings in fall and winter, moving us from 2023 into early 2024.
