Travis Norvell

Travis is a proud native West Virginian hailing from the town of St. Albans. He graduated from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and in 2000 from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School (Martin Luther King, Jr’s alma mater). The pastoral life called him to serve churches in West Virginia, Rhode Island, and New Orleans before arriving at Judson Church in July, 2012.  He is also an adjunct faculty member at United Seminary of the Twin Cities.  

 

In 2022 his book Church on the Move: A Practical Guide for Ministry in the Community was published by Judson Press.  In 2023 he was the first recipient of the Peace, Service and Justice Alumni Award by the Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School. The Award is presented to alumni/ae who, through words and actions, has had a positive impact on their community by.  In 2024 he received the Judson Press Ministry Award.  The Award recognizes individuals who share and promote Judson’s publishing ministry in a significant way and “with a ready and willing Christian Spirit and for the joy of serving God.”  

 

You can find his writings in The Christian Century, The Christian Citizen, Sojourners, The Star Tribune, Minnpost, and other publications.  You can also, in the winter, hear his “winter bike commute reports” weekday mornings on Minnesota Public Radio with Cathy Wurzer.
